Wayland Board of Health weighs abutters' challenge to Veritas septic plan

WAYLAND — January 13, 2025 — Wayland Board of Health hears abutters' Title 5 challenge to Veritas Christian Academy septic plan. Hydrologist Scott Horsley, retained by neighbors on Yeager Way, told the board the project's southern leach field, rated at 2,500 gallons per day, exceeds the Title 5 nitrogen loading cap of 1,827 gallons per day when only the 3.05 acres inside the Zone 2 wellhead protection area are counted. Attorney Gail Magana Hire of Verrill urged the board to apply standards "more stringent than Title 5." Staff said MassDEP's Claire Golden has so far advised that all four contiguous parcels count as facility land. The board voted 4-0 to support invoking its 1992 consultant review fee regulation to fund additional peer review, and separately voted 4-0 to waive a two-year experience requirement for Luminous Salon owner Dre Hopkins to perform microblading.
