Board of Health denies permit for three geese

Board of Health · Meeting of September 21, 2026

Wayland Board of Health denies animal-keeping permit for three geese and one duck after abutter objects. The board voted 4-0 Monday to reject the Boston Post Road request, leaving in place a 2024 permit for one goose and two ducks granted by variance on an under-one-acre lot. Health Director Julia Junghanns said she did not see "the three geese being a solution that's going to work," and noted the town's regulation allows six chickens, not six fowl.

Chair Robert Defrancesco told applicants the complaining neighbor had been unhappy "for months and months and months." Member Brett Mordas was absent. The board separately voted unanimously to extend a lead-remediation deadline at 69 Old Connecticut Path to November 1 after attorney Anthony Coletti laid out an October 5 work start, and declined to declare Route 20 vehicle noise a public health nuisance.
