Wayland board interviews two Finance Committee incumbents, sets Nov. 1 application deadline

WAYLAND — October 11, 2023 — Wayland's Finance Committee Appointing Board interviewed two incumbents and opened a two-week recruitment window. Meeting remotely Oct. 11, Chair Cherry C. Karlson, Miranda S. Jones and Bill Whitney finalized a recruitment statement and set a Nov. 1 application deadline, with resumes directed to staff in the town manager's office. Incumbents Brian O'Herlihy and John Barnett were interviewed for reappointment; O'Herlihy, a 25-year town volunteer, said he wants to continue "while my brain is still operating properly" and called Barnett a strong first-year member. O'Herlihy said the past year required the committee to "ask questions, dig deep, press for answers" on the budget under the new Town Manager Act, with town counsel confirming the committee still must bring the budget to Town Meeting. The board also approved prior minutes 3-0.
