Wayland assessors approve $2.39 million motor vehicle excise commitment

WAYLAND — February 3, 2025 — Wayland assessors commit $2.39 million in motor vehicle excise taxes. The Board of Assessors voted unanimously Feb. 3 to approve the first fiscal year 2025 motor vehicle excise commitment of $2,394,798.57, with bills to be issued Feb. 24. Chair Zachariah L. Ventress, Vice-Chair Philip David Parks and member Douglass McNeilly cast the votes; members Massimo Taurisano and Steven Klitgord were absent. Staff reported roughly 40 abatement applications in hand ahead of the 7 p.m. statutory deadline that evening, with additional postmarked filings expected. Form of list, income and expense, and Form 3ABC charitable filings are due March 1, and a second exemption vote is planned after the April 1 deadline. The board then adjourned into executive session to handle January abatements, two real estate reassessments and two Appellate Tax Board cases.
