Wayland Energy Committee advances COA solar and EV charger rollout

WAYLAND — February 4, 2025 — Wayland's Energy and Climate Committee greenlights COA rooftop solar and 10 EV charging ports. Sustainability Manager Abigail Schuett told the committee Tuesday that the town has agreed on a power purchase agreement rate with Solect Energy for rooftop solar at the new Council on Aging community center, after abandoning a planned solar canopy that Co-Chair Ellen Tohn said could not deliver "a PPA rate that was at all appealing." Five dual-port Level 2 ChargePoint stations arrive this week, with installation starting Feb. 10. A cracked Loker School boiler was replaced with two condensing units expected to save about $12,000 annually. The new sustainability coordinator post, advertised Jan. 23, has drawn about 20 applicants. The committee voted 4-0 to approve Jan. 7 minutes.
