Trust Fund Commission approves four disbursements totaling nearly $7,750

WAYLAND — April 3, 2024 — Wayland Trust Fund Commission greenlights nearly $7,750 in disbursements, headlined by a Callie Crossley library talk. The three-member panel, chaired by Barry Rothschild with members Adam Gutbezahl and Robert Fox, voted 3-0 at its April 3 meeting to authorize up to $3,300 from the roughly $55,000 Gossels Fund for Human Dignity to cover Crossley's $3,000 speaking fee and up to $300 in transportation for a Sunday program on local news deserts. The commission also approved $4,250 from the library small funds — market value about $362,000 — to conserve a damaged 19th-century trustees' minute book and buy archival supplies, plus $199.75 to pay an Ingram book invoice. A fourth vote authorized up to $200 from the $4,500 Public Ceremonies Fund to engrave the annual Pierre Gossels Award plaque. Rothschild called the Crossley draw "substantial," and Gutbezahl warned repeated disbursements of that size could harm the fund's "longevity" without new gifts. Board of Library Trustees member Wyn Treese said the trustees did not expect another request of similar size soon.
