Wayland School Committee approves robotics team's West Springfield trip

WAYLAND — April 4, 2024 — Wayland School Committee clears robotics team for overnight trip to West Springfield tournament. At a four-minute special meeting opening at 4:34 p.m. April 4, members Jeannie Downs, Christina Rodrigo and Aaron Gibbons voted 3-0 to approve the travel under the district's overnight-trip policy; members Erin Muller and Ellen Grieco were absent. Acting Superintendent David Fleischman told the committee the team qualified on short notice for the Thursday-to-Saturday event and called the bracket-style format "their version of March Madness." Fleischman flagged a discrepancy between the packet's three-night hotel reference and the team's immediate one-night request, and said he would return at Wednesday's regular meeting if the team advances and needs further approval. The committee adjourned at 4:38 p.m.
