Select Board suspends China Rose liquor license for two days

WAYLAND — June 16, 2025 — Wayland Select Board penalizes two liquor licensees over uncertified bartenders. The board voted 3-0 Monday to suspend China Rose's license on June 26 and 27 after an 18-year-old police decoy was served a beer on May 22, and to place X-Golf Wayland on one year of probation after an April 7 crash involving a patron whose receipt showed eight drinks. Chair Carol B. Martin presided with Vice-Chair Doug Levine and member William Whitney; Thomas J. Fay was absent. Police Chief Edward Burman said both servers lacked TIPS certification required by town rules. Attorney Elizabeth Lashway, for X-Golf owner Rob Granahan, argued there was no proof of "service to an intoxicated" patron. China Rose owner Fu Hua Huang, represented by attorney Ken Barrack, did not contest the violation. All China Rose employees must recertify within 15 days.
