Recreation Commission notifies Select Board of Perlman vacancy, names Norton to landfill panel

WAYLAND — March 7, 2025 — Wayland Recreation Commission moves to fill Perlman seat, dives into 195 Main Street debate. The commission voted 4-0 Friday to notify the Select Board of the vacancy created by member Dave Perlman's death and unanimously named Mark Norton to the Route 20 South Landfill Visioning Committee through Nov. 1. Chair Asa Foster eulogized Perlman as a colleague whose mission was "always finding a way to get to yes." Members also retroactively endorsed FY26 revolving fund caps of $960,000 for recreation and $175,000 for fields. Wayland Dads organizer Scott Walters pitched a 40,000-square-foot indoor facility at the former DPW site with construction estimates of $11 million to $18 million; commissioner Jeff Bergeron warned the group will be "lambasted at town meeting" without a clearer business plan. A special March 28 meeting will host operators from comparable facilities.
