Personnel Board grants firefighter's late vacation payout request

WAYLAND — June 11, 2025 — Wayland Personnel Board unanimously approves firefighter's late vacation payout as one-time exception. The board voted 4-0 on June 11 to let firefighter Todd Winner cash out two nights and one day of remaining vacation after he missed the contractual May 1 deadline due to a personal, non-duty injury that has him out on sick leave. Fire Chief Neil McPherson recommended approval but warned the board to "be very careful" that the exception not become routine, saying late filings could "create a precedent." Union president Taylor Ziegler Miller agreed in writing that the vote is non-precedent-setting. Chair Maryanne Peabody, Paul Morenberg, Jill Zukerman and Mary Ellen Castagno all voted yes. HR Manager Catherine Ryan separately told the board GovHR's classification and compensation study is collecting job analysis questionnaires through June 13, with employee interviews set for the first two weeks of July.
