New Wayland appointing board picks Karlson as chair, plans FinCom recruitment

WAYLAND — September 26, 2023 — Wayland's new Finance Committee Appointing Board picks Karlson as inaugural chair, eyes four FinCom vacancies. At its first-ever meeting Tuesday, the three-member board voted 3-0 to elect Cherry C. Karlson as chair through Sept. 30, 2024, after Miranda S. Jones declined the role citing travel demands. The board confirmed one open Finance Committee seat ending June 30, 2024, and three ending June 30, 2026; incumbents Brian O'Herlihy and John Barnett have asked to be reappointed, leaving two three-year seats to fill from new applicants. Jones pushed for a formal public solicitation rather than "roping in volunteers," and members agreed to distribute a fuller position description through the town website, Wayland Patch, Wayland eNews and a community Facebook group. The board is targeting the week of Oct. 9 to interview the two reappointment candidates.
