NBC10 to air WHS peer mediation story Monday
Wayland High School Principal Allyson Mizoguchi announced Oct. 23 that NBC10 Boston will air a story on WHS's Peer Mediation program Monday, and that Rotary Youth Leadership Award nominations for sophomores are due Nov. 1.
Wayland High School Principal Allyson Mizoguchi announced in her Friday message Oct. 23 that NBC10 Boston will air a story Monday, Oct. 26, about the school's Peer Mediation program.
The program, run in partnership with MetroWest Mediation Services, trains students to help peers resolve conflicts "in a constructive, supportive, and confidential way." Mizoguchi said 25 trained mediators currently support the program. She thanked parent Michael Henrich for bringing the story to the station's attention, along with all peer mediators and advisors Sean Gass and Latoya Downes for their work on the program.
Mizoguchi also relayed a call for nominations for the Rotary Club of Wayland and Weston's Youth Leadership Award. The award recognizes current 10th graders living or studying in Wayland who embody "service above self, focusing on leadership and community service." Anyone, including staff, parents, students or community members, may nominate a sophomore using a five-minute online form. The first round of nominations closes Nov. 1.
In other school news, Mizoguchi congratulated the ninth graders elected to the Class of 2030 Executive Board and Student Council, who will be advised by Ed DeHoratius. She also praised the WHS and Wayland Middle School orchestras, led by Fine Arts Director Susan Memoli, for a joint Masquerade Concert featuring costumed musicians.
Mizoguchi noted the Connect Program's Haunted House and Fall Fair is set for Sunday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the high school's Field House.
