Landfill committee approves $9,900 contract with Boston design firm
WAYLAND -- December 19, 2023, Wayland's landfill visioning panel hires Boston firm for $9,900 to draft reuse concepts. The Route 20 South Landfill Visioning Committee voted 5-0 on Dec. 19 to engage The Collaborative, authorizing Chair Thomas Fay, member Clifford Lewis and DPW Director Tom Holder to tighten the scope before signing. Funds come from roughly $120,000 left of a $150,000 engineering appropriation; Holder said the price "is coincidental" in falling just under the town's $10,000 procurement threshold. Principal Bill Giesentanner told the panel the capped site "could be a wonderful conservation asset or it could be developed commercially." Member Erin Gibbons pressed to skip a planned one-day workshop because the committee has already generated about 17 candidate uses over 15 months. Holder also reported a favorable MEPA opinion and said DPW will perform Phase 1 tree clearing in-house.
