Landfill committee narrows 17 proposed uses to a working short list
WAYLAND — December 22, 2025 — Wayland landfill committee narrows reuse list to roughly 10 concepts, drops housing. The Route 20 South Landfill Visioning Committee on Monday endorsed a draft short list pulled from 17 ideas first floated in June 2023, keeping grass fields, solar canopies over parking, a DPW materials yard, school-bus parking, a possible dog park, a small amphitheater and a bird viewing structure. Chair Thomas Fay said housing is "economically unfeasible" at the capped site. DPW Director Tom Holder said test pits are mapping the waste footprint and that under $10,000 remains to have Weston & Sampson Collaborative draft a professional concept. Member Clifford Lewis, who sketched a layout, said "you can fit all those things in." The committee approved Nov. 24 minutes 5-0-1 and adjourned 7-0 at 6:51 p.m. Its charge expires Feb. 27, 2026.
