Assessors OK $115,158 excise tax commitment

Wayland Assessors unanimously committed $115,158.48 in motor vehicle excise taxes and logged a slate of pending tax appeals. Chair Zachariah Ventress and members Steven Klitgord, Douglass McNeilly and Clovis Schaff approved the fiscal 2027 fifth excise commitment, covering 382 bills valued at $10,459,386.85, with bills issuing October 8. The office's director, Rob, reported fiscal 2027 new growth running about $750,000 and said consultant Roy Bishop of Bishop & Associates would help close out an office sales analysis "by Friday, October 9th." A disclosure period for new valuations runs October 19-23, ahead of a November 16 tax classification hearing.
The board then voted to adjourn into executive session to review pending Appellate Tax Board cases, including filings from NP Wayland LLC, HDR Holdings LLC and Level 3 Communications LLC, plus September's motor vehicle abatements.
