Wayland water committee approves second Procellacor treatment on Dudley Pond
WAYLAND — June 14, 2023 — Wayland water committee clears second Procellacor pass on Dudley Pond. The Surface Water Quality Committee voted 3-0 Wednesday to authorize Solitude Lake Management to treat up to seven additional acres of invasive milfoil, on top of the roughly 63 acres covered May 26 under a $40,000-plus contract. Chair Tom Klem said the follow-up should cost under $10,000, avoiding a new procurement, and that the Dudley Pond Association has offered to gift funds if rolled-over committee money cannot be tapped. Member Tom Largy reported a possible fish kill of sunfish, crappies and bluegills at Heard Pond on May 23 but said the die-off appeared to have ended. Member Carole Plumb said the Board of Health approved a state-endorsed cyanobacteria testing protocol for the Town Beach, replacing automatic week-long closures with locally generated data.
