Wayland to post PFAS fish-consumption advisory at Lake Cochituate

WAYLAND — March 13, 2023 — Wayland will post new PFAS fish-consumption warnings at Lake Cochituate access points. The Board of Health was briefed March 13 on a Massachusetts Department of Public Health advisory — one of 13 issued at state parks this round — that tells children under 12, pregnant or nursing people, and people of childbearing age to eat no fish from the lake, while other anglers are told to avoid American eel and limit other fish to "one meal per two months." The PFAS language joins a longer-standing PCB advisory traced to Nyanza contamination. Members also reviewed an early Mill Creek friendly 40B for 172 units at the former Whole Foods plaza on Boston Post Road, in an area where flooding has previously required "duck boats" and the National Guard. The board's well permit fee remains roughly $150.
