Wayland Select Board cuts first-week early voting hours for November election

WAYLAND — September 23, 2024 — Wayland Select Board unanimously trims first-week early voting hours for November election. The 5-0 vote backed Town Clerk Trudy Reid's request to run reduced hours Oct. 21-25 — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday — before resuming regular business hours the following week. Reid said 3,500 to 3,600 residents have already requested mail ballots out of more than 10,000 registered voters, with the total likely to hit 5,000; ballots are expected around Oct. 7. Chair William Whitney noted prior first-week in-person costs ran roughly "$200 a person." The board also accepted a $36,000 Community Compact grant to study merging town and school operations, and Town Manager Michael McCall reported $2.1 million in remaining ARPA funds against a Dec. 31 obligation deadline, including $581,000 tied to the stalled Snake Brook Dam project.
