Wayland Historic District Commission elects Dale chair, Baston vice chair

WAYLAND — September 24, 2024 — Wayland Historic District Commission elects Greg Dale chair and Margery F. Baston vice chair. The 5-0 vote Tuesday formalized leadership after Baston spent months as acting chair; alternate Gretchen Schuler, a former longtime chair filling in for absent member Desmond, declined the vice chair slot, saying she could not hold it as an alternate. The four-member quorum also approved the commission's annual report 4-0-1, with Alex Finlayson abstaining, and signed off on a recruitment blurb for the town manager's new newsletter noting the panel still lacks an architect. Baston flagged the prominent property at 5 Pelham Island Road — the former Pay Lynn building — as listed for roughly $1.95 million with an accepted offer. "The chair should not be doing it," Schuler said of clerk duties; members agreed to rotate minute-taking. Next meeting is Oct. 22.
