Wayland School Committee approves superintendent search survey on 5-0 vote

WAYLAND — September 23, 2024 — Wayland School Committee approves community survey to guide superintendent search. Members voted 5-0 Monday to launch a Google Forms survey asking residents to rank leadership qualities, district tasks and success metrics for the next superintendent; a second unanimous vote adjourned the meeting. Chair Erin Gibbons, Christina Rodrigo, Erin Mueller and Kate Sambucco met in person, with Betsy Cullen by phone. The survey will close at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, with results reviewed Oct. 9. The committee added a yes-or-no closing question on whether the district is "headed in the right direction" at Cullen's suggestion, and inserted "ensuring academic achievement and excellence" as a ranked task option. Mueller argued against requiring Google sign-in to limit duplicates, saying the effort "should be based on kind of the honor system." Weston's comparable survey drew more than 600 responses.
