Wayland Select Board authorizes RFP for new Council on Aging center
WAYLAND -- October 5, 2019, Wayland authorizes a three-path RFP to land a Council on Aging community center site by spring. The Select Board voted 5-0 to direct Town Administrator Louise Miller to solicit proposals to either sell land, sell a building, or build-and-lease a facility to the town, with a goal of identifying a site in time for the spring annual town meeting warrant. The action would also free roughly $470,000 in prior appropriations now restricted to a specific municipal parcel. Member Cherry Karlson cited a Pittsford, N.Y. combined senior-recreation center where attendance rose "55 percent" after opening. In public comment, resident Gretchen Schuler blasted procurement delays, citing $785,000 in unspent Stone's Bridge appropriations and a Mellon Law Office invoice paid five and a half months late: "Frankly, this is downright embarrassing." The board also appointed Shawna Hearn (Cultural Council), Matt Brandy (Dog Control Appeals Board associate) and reappointed Chris Ryan to the Audit Committee.
