Wayland School Committee reappoints Fleischman as interim superintendent

WAYLAND -- October 24, 2023, Wayland reappoints David Fleischman as interim superintendent for a second year. The School Committee voted 4-0 Tuesday at a brief Zoom meeting to extend Fleischman's tenure as acting superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year, effective July 1, 2024, and authorized the chair to execute the contract. Members Jeanne Downs, Erin Gibbons, Erin Muller and Christina Rodrigo voted yes; member Ellen was absent. The vote followed an executive session on negotiation strategy held under M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Section 21A2. The chair said the extension will provide "continued stability" while the district mounts a "robust and thorough search" for a permanent superintendent with community input. No financial terms were disclosed in open session. The meeting opened at 5:05 p.m. and adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
