Wayland School Committee greenlights co-teaching rollout and new transition program

WAYLAND — April 9, 2025 — Wayland greenlights elementary co-teaching, in-district 18-to-22 program and $288,000 facilities study. The School Committee on April 9 endorsed Director of Student Services Ronnie's plan to launch co-teaching in grades three through five next year, with a general education teacher, a special education teacher and a teaching assistant in each participating classroom full-time. A new transition program for students ages 18 to 22 will open at the high school — not the Town Center — serving two to three students initially and keeping vocational training in the home community rather than tuitioning students to Natick, Brookline or Bellingham. Superintendent David and outgoing Operations Director Susan walked members through a seven-step, $288,000 master plan process for the district's pre-K-to-8 buildings, four of which date to the 1950s and 1960s.
