Wayland School Committee approves multi-year district improvement plan

WAYLAND — September 20, 2023 — Wayland School Committee unanimously adopts six-pillar district improvement plan and fills two Youth Advisory seats. Acting Superintendent David Fleischman walked the board through goals spanning academics, belonging and equity, social-emotional learning, student services, community communication and facilities, warning that several — including a long-term elementary facilities plan — will span multiple years. Interim Student Services Director Debbie Dixon said special-education staff are "hungry for the direction" after she met with teams at every level. Members reappointed clinical social worker Pam Sarn to the Youth Advisory Committee and appointed Boston Children's Hospital psychologist Heidi Ellis to the second seat, citing her work on youth mental health and polarization; the names of Lisa Goodman, Amruta Moudabe and Caroline Hanlon will be forwarded to the Select Board for its open YAC seat. The committee also approved its annual town report and received word that quarterly budget reports will begin in November.
