Wayland Recreation Commission to tour downtown building eyed for purchase

WAYLAND — September 16, 2025 — Recreation Commission eyes downtown building and seat at Wayland's new capital planning table. The commission, chaired by Asa B. Foster, voted to tour a downtown property listed at roughly $1.5 million that supporters say could be acquired at about $200 per square foot versus $800 for new construction, with a possible library partnership. "If the library and recreation are in that building, it's a win-win for the community," Foster said. Recreation Director Katherine Wendell told members the middle school fields sit in year six or seven of the town's capital plan, while Alpine Field, high school varsity baseball and softball, and irrigation at fields five and six are funded this year. Members made DPW field maintenance and capital planning standing agenda items and approved the fiscal 2025 annual report after correcting CPC language tied to member Lesley Stewart's term.
