Recreation Commission backs further work on resident-pitched Wayland dog park
WAYLAND -- August 19, 2025, Wayland Recreation Commission warms to resident-led dog park, asks for vetted parcel list. Nicolette Mascaria and Jessica, joined remotely by John Weintraub, told commissioners on Aug. 19 that roughly one in three Wayland households owns a dog and that residents drive as far as Natick's Eddie's Park, 6.6 miles away, for off-leash space. Their 90-resident survey found 84 percent were dog owners. The group has consulted animal control officer Jennifer Condon and Natick organizer Kelly McPherson, and is eyeing a half-acre to two-acre site, possibly at town center or the old Route 20 South landfill. Commissioners also voted to strike five FY26 goals, including a seasonal ice rink, and add four new ones, and heard from Recreation Director Catherine that PJ Organics is remediating Loker Field after contractor Cataldo closed out its warranties.
