Wayland Recreation Commission raises adult field fees for first time since 2013
WAYLAND — February 14, 2025 — Wayland Recreation Commission raises adult field fees for first time in 12 years. The commission voted 4-1 Friday to lift the per-team season charge for adult organizations from $300 to $400 on grass and $450 to $600 on turf, with a new $75-per-hour rate for private and for-profit clubs, all effective when the summer rental season begins in June. Chair Asa Foster said the increase was overdue, arguing that escalating fees "3 percent per year since 2013" would have produced the same number. Member Mark Norton cast the dissenting vote, calling the rationale "feel-good reasons, but not actual reasons" given an existing $18,000-to-$25,000 annual surplus in the field account. The $40 per-player rate for Wayland youth leagues was left unchanged. Director Catherine said the revolving account now absorbs $50,000 to $60,000 in irrigation costs not carried in 2013.
