Wayland Recreation Commission approves annual report, sets Oct. 21 meeting

WAYLAND -- September 24, 2024, Wayland Recreation Commission presses for a seat on the town's new capital planning panel. At its Sept. 24 meeting, commissioners Asa B. Foster, Mark Norton and Lesley Stewart unanimously approved the fiscal 2024 annual report and the May 23 and July 1 minutes, then objected to a draft warrant article that would bar appointed board members from the long-term capital committee. "It makes perfect sense that one of us would be on it," Norton said, citing direct knowledge of field conditions. The recreation director reported weekly lab testing kept the town beach open all summer while South Pond and Middle Pond have been under state advisory since May 23, and said a $150,000 CPA award for the Cochituate basketball court is on hold after the low bid came in around $340,000. The commission set its next meeting for Oct. 21 at 6 p.m., ahead of a Select Board forum on the Loker property.
