Wayland presents MWRA connection and PFAS treatment plan at MEPA hearing
WAYLAND -- November 18, 2025, Wayland opens MEPA comment period on MWRA hookup and Happy Hollow PFAS plant. At a Nov. 18 state environmental review hearing, MEPA analyst Eva Vaughan said the dual-source project, file number 17017, exceeds mandatory review thresholds for interbasin water transfer and for a new drinking-water plant. Kleinfelder project manager Kirsten Ryan said all four town wells exceed or will exceed PFAS limits and that Wayland "really needs a long-term solution." The plan includes a 20-inch main from MWRA's Shaft L in Framingham, a 3.5-million-gallon-per-day pump station at Castle Road, 7,700 feet of new distribution main on Old Connecticut Path, and a permanent 4,000-square-foot treatment facility at Happy Hollow. Three wells would be decommissioned. Comments are due Dec. 8; the EIR is expected in January.
