Wayland Personnel Board adds Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples Day to non-union holidays

WAYLAND — October 16, 2024 — Wayland Personnel Board adds Juneteenth and Indigenous Peoples Day to non-union holiday policy. The board voted 4-0 Wednesday to amend policy M401-01, bringing non-union employees into line with collective bargaining agreements that already include Juneteenth — except the still-open firefighters' contract. Chair Maryanne Peabody led the vote with members Mary Ellen Castagno, Jill Zukerman and Paul Morenberg. HR Manager Kate Ryan told the board the town has no formal flex-time policy for exempt employees who work holidays, though informal flexing is allowed in emergencies. Ryan also reported that a joint town-school Community Compact grant has been approved by the state to fund an outside assessment of shared facilities, payroll and HR functions, and said the RFP for the long-pending classification and compensation study is awaiting town manager review. The board skipped November; next meeting is Dec. 10.
