Wayland housing trust approves home repair loan program for income-eligible residents

WAYLAND -- April 19, 2023, Wayland's Municipal Affordable Housing Trust unanimously approved a home repair loan program for income-eligible residents. The 5-0 vote, subject to final attorney edits, clears the program for posting on the trust's website with an 80 percent area median income threshold and preference for lower-income applicants when funds are tight. Vice Chair Jacqueline Espiritusanto-Vega insisted the trust anchor eligibility to established HUD or state figures because "we can't just make it up." Funds will flow directly to contractors after work is completed, with the Wayland Housing Authority paid a modest fee to verify incomes. Chair Michael Staiti separately reported the 11 Lemon Hammond Street rehab remains stuck after the town sent him an 806-page sample bid package, for a 1,100-square-foot Cape. Next meeting May 23.
