Wayland Finance Committee plans voter education push ahead of FY28 override

WAYLAND — December 1, 2025 — Wayland Finance Committee maps voter education strategy ahead of likely fiscal 2028 override. The committee spent most of its Dec. 1 meeting debating how to reach residents before a Dec. 11 excluded-debt vote and an override expected the following year, with members noting Wayland has not passed an operating override since the 2010s and has "squeezed out as much as we can of the excess levy." The panel's newest member, Rob, will return in January with a draft plan covering surveys, infographics and a website refresh. Members estimated new growth runs about $400,000 annually and that even full execution of Economic Development Committee recommendations would yield under $10 million over a decade against projected $2 million structural deficits. The committee also confirmed its Oct. 6 5-0 vote supporting debt reclassification, which is missing from the posted minutes. Whole Foods, Bank of America and Terrain are expected to open in the town center next year.
