Wayland Finance Committee approves annual report, flags appointment delays

WAYLAND — August 21, 2023 — Wayland Finance Committee approves annual report while warning of staffing gap before possible fall town meeting. The committee voted 5-0 Monday to approve member Brian Mullaly's draft annual report and 5-0 to approve June 26 minutes, with Chair Pam Roman, Kelly Lappin, Steve Correia and Michael Foyle present. Three members are serving past their term expirations because the new Finance Committee Appointing Board — created by town meeting and chaired by Town Moderator Miranda Jones — has yet to be seated; interested former members have until Sept. 5 to respond. Members flagged a potential new elementary school they pegged at $20 million-plus as absent from any five-year plan, and reviewed a Personnel Board letter raising concerns about hires made outside the approved budget. "You shouldn't be hiring them today," Correia said of positions the committee had declined to fund.
