Wayland energy panel signs off on aggregation rollout postcard

WAYLAND — February 14, 2024 — Wayland energy panel approves aggregation postcard, banks $121,778 in grants. The Energy and Climate Committee on Wednesday approved the design of a "coming soon" postcard for the new Wayland Electricity Choice aggregation program, set to mail March 13 ahead of a formal opt-out notice March 20. Marlena Patton of Peregrine Energy Group urged keeping the message high level, saying "vague is better for this postcard" to avoid confusion before residents see prices. The committee voted 4-0 to enter executive session under M.G.L. Ch. 30A §21(a)(10) to review indicative supplier bids. Sustainability Manager Abby Shute reported a $28,965 EV charging grant for five dual-port chargers at the Council on Aging and a $92,813 Green Communities award for DPW retro-commissioning and weatherization at the Town Building and Claypit Hill Elementary. Chair Ellen Tohn credited the hiring of a sustainability manager: "This is all because we have a sustainability manager."
