Wayland Energy and Climate Committee advances solar, weatherization and EV projects

WAYLAND — August 21, 2024 — Wayland Energy and Climate Committee adds two members and pushes solar, weatherization projects forward. Chair Ellen Tohn welcomed incoming member Neil Gordon and applicant Glenn Snyder at the Aug. 21 remote meeting, assigning Snyder to work with member William Huss and Sustainability Manager Abigail Schutt on EV charging strategy. Schutt reported the town submitted a $40,000 federal block grant application for public safety building weatherization after Town Hall attic quotes exceeded $170,000. The Loker Elementary solar project remains on track for early-November operation, while the Town Hall HVAC retrofit sits at 70 percent complete pending AAON warranty parts. Schutt called contractor B2Q's DPW retro-commissioning work — which found code errors cutting airflow 30 percent — a model going forward, saying she was "absolutely thrilled with them." A high school retro-commissioning project being prepped for fall Green Communities funding is projected to save roughly $46,300 annually.
