Wayland School Committee approves 2024-25 goals, advances Title IX update

WAYLAND — August 26, 2024 — Wayland School Committee approves district goals and sends Title IX policy out for public comment. Interim Superintendent David Fleischman and Assistant Superintendent Betsy Gavron presented 2024-25 goals spanning academics, equity, attendance, cell phone use and a long-range building plan, after the district filled its last three leadership openings and onboarded 26 new teachers, nine new administrators and two administrators in new roles. The committee unanimously released the updated Title IX policy (AC-R) for 30 days of public comment, with member Kate Sambuco saying it "aligns completely with the model" from MASC. Gavron said the elementary SEL pilot will use Wayfinder and Second Step after peer districts dropped pricier Fly 5. The committee also flagged about $288,000 for a school buildings assessment to feed the town's long-range capital plan, and approved MOUs with the teachers and education secretaries unions in executive session.
