Wayland EDC learns Route 20 streetscape plan was never funded

WAYLAND — October 13, 2022 — Wayland EDC learns the Route 20 streetscape plan it had counted on for years was never real. New Town Planner Robert Hummel told the committee Thursday that when BETA Group followed up with MassDOT, the state had no record of the sidewalk, street-tree and curb-cut plan the previous planner described as approved. "This whole plan of the street trees and sidewalks is not going to happen," Hummel said. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi and members narrowed the committee's 2023 priorities from nine categories to five, with Route 20 and the Town Center unanimously ranked first, followed by Cochituate Village and marketing. Stanizzi floated a friendly 40B at St. Ann's parish — with draft zoning needed by January — to push Wayland past the 10 percent affordable-housing threshold. River's Edge, she noted, will generate roughly $1 million a year in tax revenue.
