Wayland EDC launches Route 20 beautification effort, eyes sign grants

WAYLAND — July 10, 2025 — Wayland EDC maps Route 20 cleanup and weighs town sign-grant program. Chair Rebecca Stanizzi told the July 10 meeting the committee will sort corridor properties into zoning-enforcement items and voluntary fixes, with member Katie Noble Harris coordinating with resident Bill Sterling, who has asked the Select Board to revisit design guidelines. Member Karen Kelly surveyed peer programs — Lowell up to $1,000, Woburn $2,000, Ashland 50 percent up to $5,000, Melrose $1,000 for signs — and member Jeff Vecchio cited Medford's $5,000 grants to tranches of 10 businesses. Town Planner Robert Hummel said the current sign bylaw is "two paragraphs" and a rewrite would require town-meeting action. The committee also learned Terrain at Wayland Village cleared appeal, Dunkin' was approved with an outdoor-dining condition, and Takara signed to take the closed Bagel Table space. Minutes from May 16 and June 13 passed 5-0.
