Wayland EDC eyes $415,000 design request for Route 20 corridor overhaul

WAYLAND — July 21, 2023 — Wayland EDC will seek $415,000 in design funding for the Route 20 corridor at spring town meeting. Public Works Director Tom Holder told the committee on July 21 that Beta Group has finished two of three concept-design tasks but stopped in October 2022 for lack of funding, and that the remaining work — design, permitting and bidding — will run roughly $415,000 with contingency. Chair Rebecca Stanizzi said she will contact regional MPO delegate Dennis Giambetti to begin angling for a Transportation Improvement Program slot, under which MassDOT would cover base paving, sidewalks and curbing but not ornamental lights or street trees. Holder pegged the full timeline at seven years and compared it to an $11 million Route 109 project he managed in Medway. Members also heard that DEP is requiring removal of all trees across the 16-acre capped South Route 20 landfill. The committee approved minutes 4-0 and set its next meeting for Sept. 8.
