Wayland Conservation Commission orders enforcement action on high school turf field
WAYLAND — July 19, 2023 — Wayland Conservation Commission escalates two-year turf field dispute with formal enforcement order. The unanimous vote directs the school department to produce a forensic investigation of crumb rubber migration from the high school synthetic field, a remediation plan and a design fix, with Chair Sean Fair calling it "the last shot across the bow" before the town hires its own engineer. Administrator Linda Hansen said short, intense rainstorms appear to overwhelm the stormwater system and that contractors have never supplied installation inspection reports the commission requested. At the same meeting the commission closed the hearing on Herb Chambers at 533 Boston Post Road and issued an Order of Conditions requiring eight parking spaces be pulled from the 30-foot no-disturb buffer, and selected Ecotech as peer reviewer for the contested 24 School Street townhouse project after objections from abutter counsel Michael Wiggins and hydrologist Scott Horsley.
