Wayland EDC approves 2023 goals, hears self-storage pitch for Route 30

WAYLAND — January 13, 2023 — Wayland EDC adopts 2023 priorities and hears Route 30 self-storage pitch. Chair Rebecca Stanizzi convened the Jan. 13 meeting with members Jesse Lopez, Brad Young, Dan Grossman and Emily, voting unanimously to approve consolidated 2023 goals covering Route 20 master planning, Cochituate corridor work and business infill. Developer George Bachrach proposed a three-story, roughly 30,000-square-foot self-storage building at 193 Commonwealth Road, set back 100 feet, projecting "a minimum of $100,000" in annual tax revenue and pledging a net-zero design with a 30,000-square-foot rooftop solar array. The project requires new zoning because "self-storage" is undefined in Wayland's bylaws; the Planning Board favors a Limited Commercial District over a Business B amendment. Resident John Weintraub texted that self-storage "is not consistent with economic development in Wayland." Stanizzi also briefed members on a St. Ann's parish plan for 60 deeply affordable senior units targeting a May 17 deadline.
