Wayland design board conditionally clears Jersey Mike's signs, rejects Pack and Ship application

WAYLAND — March 5, 2025 — Wayland design board conditionally backs Jersey Mike's signs, rejects Pack and Ship application. The Design Review Advisory Board voted 3-0 on March 5 to recommend approval of two exterior signs at a new Jersey Mike's Subs, on the condition that letters not be internally illuminated and that each sign be reduced from roughly 40 square feet to 20 square feet to meet the town's 40-square-foot bylaw cap. Applicant Sean McClone agreed on the record to revise the drawings to halo-lit opaque letters. Member Tatiana Person flagged that the submitted rendering appeared to show face-lit acrylic letters, which Chair William Sterling warned the ZBA would reject. The board separately voted 3-0 to recommend denying a Wayland Pack and Ship application at 297 Boston Post Road, with member Robin Borgestedt citing "lack of information" on the size and appearance of the prior kiosk sign. Sterling pegged the proposed panel at 17.29 square feet but said the tenant's total signage was not disclosed.
