Wayland Cultural Council picks "Youth Transforming Communities" as 2025 utility-box theme

WAYLAND — January 15, 2025 — Wayland Cultural Council picks "Youth Transforming Communities" for its final 2025 utility-box mural. The council voted unanimously Jan. 15 to adopt the theme for the last unpainted box, at Route 20 and Route 27/126, with installation targeted for April or May. Chair Pallavi Nagesha said the state's grant portal shows only $8,245 available for granting against roughly $11,000 the council had already allocated to applicants; members authorized her to reduce all awards by an "equal percentage" if she cannot resolve the discrepancy with the Mass Cultural Council liaison. Member Naresh Mysore proposed the fallback motion. The council also agreed to fund painting of one or two benches along the Historical Commission's rail trail project and extended the town Multicultural Council's use of its bulletin board through February, starting with a Martin Luther King Jr. exhibit.
