Wayland Cultural Council commissions two artists for rail trail doors
WAYLAND -- April 11, 2023, Wayland Cultural Council commissions two artists for rail trail door installation. The council voted 6-0 twice on April 11 to award the two locally painted doors in its summer rail trail project to a Sudbury woodworker proposing a cutout-and-burned-wood design and to a self-taught Wayland watercolorist who goes by Sunny, choosing them from four proposals. Chair Rachel Seidman-Kurt said she sanded and primed the doors herself after DPW declined and will deliver them May 1 for installation the first week of May; five additional doors borrowed from a West Concord artist collective will fill out the display through August. Member Lynn Lipcon praised the burned-wood concept, saying "a door where the artist burns part of it and creates an image, that sounds interesting." Treasurer Sean announced he is moving to Natick in June and is stepping down; visiting resident David offered to serve as interim treasurer. The council's state appropriation last year was roughly $6,700.
