Wayland Cultural Council awards $11,260 to 16 programs after trimming requests

WAYLAND -- December 18, 2024, Wayland Cultural Council awards $11,260 to 16 programs after closing a $620 gap. Chair Pallavi Nagesha walked members through a series of unanimous votes Wednesday that eliminated a $280 single-event hip-hop dance request, trimmed ArtsWayland's acoustic concert award by $200 to $1,000, reduced a Greater Boston Barbershop Quartet senior-care performance by $50 to $850, cut the Wayland Classical Concert Series by $50 to $450, and shaved $40 off the Wayland Library's "Dinosaur Rock Fossil Adventure" to $855. New member Charles "Chip" Bent, a former Sotheby's executive who joined Dec. 2, urged "spreading out the reduction" so initiatives could still proceed. Member Marie Isenburg pushed back on the concert-series cut as "a very small hit" on a $10,000 budget. Student member Alyssa Ao announced she had been admitted to Harvard. The council reserved $1,340 for its own programming and next meets Jan. 8.
