Wayland conservation panel declines to revisit Shireena Road wetland ruling

WAYLAND — January 8, 2025 — Wayland Conservation Commission declines to revisit wetland delineation for proposed Shireena Road subdivision. At the Jan. 8 meeting, abutters at 13 Shireena Road urged the panel to reopen its earlier Approved Resource Area Delineation, arguing a documented historical spring makes the watercourse perennial and should trigger a 200-foot riverfront zone. Consultant Patrick Garner cited the Kenwood adjudicatory decision; member Luke Legere agreed, saying "once the ORAD is issued, your hands are pretty well tied." Administrator Linda Hansen disagreed on the science: "I still think this is a perennial stream." Abutter Connie Askin said her 19 Shireena Road property has flooded worse since 2015. The hearing was continued to Jan. 29. The commission separately voted 6-0 to issue an order of conditions for the Islamic Center of Boston at 129 Boston Post Road and unanimously approved a Boston Gas Company permit to replace roughly 2,100 linear feet of gas main on Oak Street, Valley View Road and Timber Lane.
