WAYLAND — June 12, 2024 — Wayland Conservation Commission re-permits Old Stone's Bridge restoration for a third time. Vice-Chair Luke Legere ran the June 12 meeting in Chair Sean P. Fair's absence as the commission voted 6-0 to issue a new order of conditions for the historic dry-laid stone bridge over the Sudbury River, with prior 2017 permits and an amendment all expired. Sustainability Manager Abigail Shute, joined by Facilities' Ben Keefe, told members town meeting awarded additional Community Preservation funds and "we won't be back for a fourth round of extensions." Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen said she challenged DEP's request for a 401 water quality certificate because the 1,500-square-foot bridge involves far less alteration than the notice suggested. The order is conditioned on Natural Heritage sign-off and confirmation of any discharge permitting if a coffer dam is used; a Biodrawversity LLC mussel survey will precede work in priority habitat. The commission also approved orders for 35 Sedge Meadow Road, 183 Oxbow Road and 189 Plain Road, issued a fence permit at 114 Concord Road tied to a planting plan resolving a prior tree-removal violation, and adopted Hansen's first fee-schedule overhaul in roughly 20 years.
