WAYLAND — January 22, 2024 — Wayland Board of Health raises camp permit to $300 and adopts $50 asbestos review fee. Chair Robert Defrancesco and member Genevieve Anand, voting 2-0 with Jonathan Storer absent, increased the annual recreational camp permit from a combined $150 to a flat $300 plus a $100 late fee for filings within 30 days of opening, citing staff workload on paperwork review, site visits and new-director onboarding. The board adopted a new $50 fee for small-project asbestos reviews, with staff saying the department is "basically policing work to be done" under state regulation. Members also authorized the health director to refund long-dormant subdivision guarantee deposits for Sage Hill, Rose Hill Lane and Michael Road, and appointed MetroWest regional tobacco program agent Harry Belliveau to conduct compliance checks at Wayland's 15 tobacco retailers, where first-offense fines now run $1,000.
