Wayland assessors commit $41.6 million in fiscal 2023 tax warrants

WAYLAND — December 22, 2022 — Wayland assessors commit $41.6 million in tax warrants for the back half of fiscal 2023. The Board of Assessors voted unanimously Wednesday to send $41,624,263.30 in warrants to the tax collector, including $40,198,243.80 in real estate taxes, $477,572.37 in personal property, $548,908.21 in Community Preservation Act surcharges and $14,600 in income and expense fines. Chair Zachariah L. Ventress questioned the fine total, up from $13,400 a year ago, noting that 50 to 60 commercial filers skipped the March 1 deadline and that the missing data weakens capitalization rates used in commercial valuation. "We'd rather have the I&Es than kind of collect the fines," Ventress said. Vice-Chair Philip David Parks moved approval; Parks, Steven Klitgord, associate Sharon Burke and Ventress all voted yes.
