Wayland assessors approve 394-bill motor vehicle excise commitment

WAYLAND — December 5, 2023 — Wayland's administrative assessor resigns six months in as office scrambles to mail fiscal 2024 tax bills. The Board of Assessors learned Dec. 5 that Lisa Sullivan stepped down Dec. 4 to return to a real estate appraisal practice, with the director calling it "very discouraging" to lose someone of her capability just as she had hit a step increase. The position was re-advertised the same afternoon, against a backdrop of four competing MAAO postings statewide. Chair Zachariah L. Ventress, Steven Klitgord and member Burke unanimously approved the sixth motor vehicle and trailer excise commitment — 394 bills on a $9,660,966.35 valuation generating $65,078.44 in tax, with a Dec. 8 issue date. The fiscal 2024 tax rate remains uncertified pending DPW utility filings; the office plans to go live in Munis on Dec. 15, finalize Dec. 19 and mail bills by Dec. 29.
